The Assembly is a group of students who volunteer their time to meet and discuss issues affecting students in the region. We consist of officers and representatives from the region, as well as a member of the Executive Committee.

Carey Shaw - E C M East of EnglandThe Central Executive Committee member for the East of England is Carey Shaw: I have now been an O U Student since 2002, studying Earth Sciences. It took me a year to discover activity at a local branch but when a combined Norfolk branch emerged, I became treasurer of that, served on the Regional Forum and have attended Conference since 2006, becoming ECM East of England in 2008.  I am a Student Representative on the O U Regional Committee and on the Science Faculty Committee. Keeping informed about student needs is challenging at times, a Regional Forum tries to have representation from as many areas and faculties as possible, so that we can keep abreast of local needs and attitudes but if you live in the East of England and have a view or a question, please let me know. contact Carey

The East of England Region covers Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Herts and Bedfordshire, containing about 29000 students (12% of the total). It covers a large area - distances between large towns are of the order of 30 miles and current high fuel costs do not encourage long distances travel to meetings; We hope that the localized informal group structure will encourage more people to join in locally for a moan or natter over something liquid or to voice their thoughts online - please visit our forum, post, say hello and join us. Distance learning can be a lonely activity at times and share your experiences and benefit from the experiences of others.

The East of England Regional Assembly consists of student volunteers who meet about four times a year and discuss issues that concern students in the region. We have all stood for election by all students who are interested in voting and are the only form of student bureaucracy that you will encounter in the region! We wont twist your arm to join the Assembly but you are welcome to be part of the representational structure if you wish there are places for nearly 50 volunteers on the Assembly and more than 16 places as student representatives in the University's Regional Consultative machinery.
